Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine norms for anthropometric variables in 13-17 year old male Turkish track and field athletes. The research group consisted of 270 volunteer and active male athletes in the given age range, from 18 different states of Turkey, making up about 10.5% of the entire Turkish licensed athletes. To determine their somatotypes, body mass index (BMI) and body fat ratio (BFR); their stature, body weight, skinfold thicknesses, and limb diameter measures were obtained. Simple statistics and percentile scores of the given parameters were calculated. The results were adjusted into 10% segments, yielding the norm values. According to the research results, BMI improved in parallel to the age. While ectomorphy scores decreased at the age of 14; those of endomorphy, mesomorphy and BFR decreased at the age of 15. At the ages 16 and 17, the scores became close to each other. It is observed that mesomorphic structure is dominant in all ages; between ages 13-16, the ectomorphic structure leads the endomorphic one; and at the age of 17, the endomorphic structure takes the lead.
