Abstract

The aim of this research is to study the effect of 12 weeks boxing training on elite amateur boxers’ acid-base balance. A total of 16 boxers of 21.3 ± 2:3 years mean age and 179.0 ± 8.0 cm mean height, voluntarily participated in the study. There were no significant changes in body weight; blood pH, pCO2 and base excess before and after the training. There were significant increases (p<0.05) in pO2, and % O2Sat levels and there was a significant decrease (p<0.05) in bicarbonate (HCO3-) levels. As a result, it is thought that a 12-weeks boxing training period did not cause significant effects in the acid-base status of elite boxers.
