The purpose of this study is to compare IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and HsCRP levels which are involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases including CVD, in two groups with different levels of training; soccer players and sedentary people. Soccer players from the Turkish Super and First Division Leagues, and physically non-active university students participated in the study as volunteers (N=48 each) Participants were aged 18-27 years. Anthropometric parameters were assessed and biochemical assays were performed. According to Student’s t-test analysis, a significant difference was found between the two groups of participants in terms of IGF-I levels (p<0.001). There were no statistically significant differences between soccer players and sedentary people in terms of IGFBP-3 and HsCRP levels (p>0.05). In conclusion, volunteers who participated continuously in intermittent endurance training had an advantage in terms of IGF-I, believed to prevent from CVD, compared with sedentary people. On the other hand, no statistically significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of the other vascular inflammatuary markers assessed.
