Abstract
Hot and cold environments impose negative effects on human body and performance. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of cold (0°C) and hot (30°C) environments on VO2max and blood lactate levels, following an acute endurance workout. The study was conducted on 19 non-athletic male subjects (mean age 19.6 ± 5.4 yr, height 173.4 ± 6.4 cm, body weight 78.5 ± 4.4 kg). In order to determine the VO2max leve, the Shuttle Run Test was performed, and capillary blood lactate levels were determined through an Accutrend analyzer. Results of the study revealed that hot environment decreased physical performance and VO2max compared with that in cold environment. Changes in lactate levels were not statistically different, when both conditions were compared.
