Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are still the most common cause of death today. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) initially emerged in the form of simple exercise monitoring of patients with cardiovascular problems. Owing to proven effects for morbidity and mortality, it also takes a multidisciplinary structure, and becomes “sine qua non” of treatment in clinical guidelines. In today’s world, where the forefront of cost effective treatment has risen, studies have proven such quality as a treatment form. Despite all positive impacts of CR, referral and participation is still low in developed countries and ours. Two main tasks of the sports medicine discipline are exercise prescription to patients with chronic illnesses, and to contribute to community education. The current review article aimed to provide descriptive information for clinical practices, by discussing literature on cardiac rehabilitation.
