Abstract
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) in athletes is a rare but tragic event which may be prevented if the underlying cardiovascular disease can be detected in pre-participation examinations. Athletes with cardiovascular disease have greater risk for SCD when compared with non-athletes. In this review, the underlying cardiovascular diseases that may lead to sudden death in athletes and current approaches in clinical practice according to recent guidelines have been presented.
