Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare selected physical and physiological characteristics of active or sedentary individuals of each gender. For 500 participants aged between 18-30 years; age, body height, body weight, flexibility, leg strength, vertical jump, and anaerobic power characteristics were determined. Groups were compared with each other through ANOVA, using the SPSS (v13.0) program for statistical analysis. Alpha level was set at 0.05 for statistical significance. As a result; except for flexibility, participants’ score ranking for all features was obtained as “active males > sedentary males > active females > sedentary females”. On the other hand, the average flexibility scores of active females and males were significantly higher than those of the sedentary individuals.
