Personality
The human being is not born with a personality; nobody has a personality when he comes to life. The personality is formed and developed during the process of living of the individual. There are various yet interrelated factors effective on this formation of the personality; such as the cultural environment into which the individual is born, traditions, geography, education, contemporary conditions, etc. The interactions, manners, various attitudes, objections or acceptations of the individual in all these conditions embody the personality.
The personality does not necessarily develop positively. Distorted, defective, pathological, divergent, talented or excessive personalities can be observed. The individual could take control of his own personality and redefine in accordance with some ideas, conceptions or worldviews.
The personality is kinetic; it does develop and this development is essential. A non-developing personality is open to corruption, conservatism and even to bigotry. A non-developing personality is a personality for which development has been prevented.
The personality or “being a person” means being “Me”. Being “Me” is to distinguish oneself from the others; to render one self distinctive. Furthermore, being “Me” requires the presence of “Others than Me”.
Identity
Identity surfaces at the point where the individual distinguishes himself from the others. Identity is the self-definition of the individual with a nation, a belief, a way of life, and a worldview etc. or the consolidation of his personality with one or more of these. For example the phrases “I am a Turk” “I am a Humanist” “I am a Fenerbahçe fan” are each an expression of identity and represents the individual’s integration of his self and his life with a field. Any expression of identity is a designation and shows the split of an identity from another, standing against the other. When personalities stand against each other in the context of identity, a tension might occur.
Conflict
Conflict occurs not only between personalities but also between identities, because both are determinations and rejections at the same time. When there is a person who says “I am also me” against a person who says “I am me” and, this is very natural, the position occurs that two separate willpowers are against each other. There is a possibility of conflict here. Conflict between personalities is possible when personalities that are hardened with certain understandings, visions or symbols come against each other. This is a range starting from conflict between groups going on to the conflict between states or even wars.
Harmony
The harmony of neither personalities nor identities is possible in the long run. Harmonious cooperation can only be maintained by an upper-identity. For this, upper personalities and upper identity expressions are necessary. This way, personalities will take shape in an environment of wider capacity identity.
Upper-identity expressions may be locally equipped, but as a whole, they should be equipped to besiege or belong to all human beings. On the other hand, it is important that these upper identity expressions should have all the peoples’ mutual grant and share.
Sports as an upper- identity expression
Sports is not an everyday life. Sports is a symbolic life and realizes itself on top of the standard daily life. On the other hand, the rules and principles of a sports discipline and the values of the sports event contain an action - value area belonging to everybody. This area is an upper-identity expression peculiar to sports. Without doubt, sports is not the only way of self-expression of people but actually, is the most common and surrounding one.
The great function of sports in the development of an individual’s personality, its universal dimensional values, and understanding of life are all present here.
Universiade
Universities are certainly the most important section in our world that needs expression of upper identities with priority and absolutely. Societies who bring up their youth with values of universal dimension are the societies who have begun to live with high values. This kind of a high degree of life is what individuals, personalities, societies and our whole world looks after. This is why Universiade is an invitation to all countries and the future on this context.
