Abstract

The interest in and tendency to sports participation has increased in time and for both genders, and this led to higher importance of pre-participation examinations. These examinations must be carried out regularly to decrease sports-related injuries, to determine pathologies effecting sports performance, and to prevent possible sudden death in sports. Sudden death is very rare in sports. However, this situation is pretty surprising and dramatic. On the other hand, media pays a lot of attention, so that there is an increasing interest in both the public and medical opinion regarding the issue. How these examinations should be carried out is still uncertain, both worldwide and in our country. However, there is no doubt that during the examination and evaluation, it is necessary to ask for a detailed family background about cardiovascular and musclo-skeletal systems and a thorough medical history. The present review discusses the subject with pertaining literature.
